Anfang des Jahres hat sich einer unserer Gründer von GABRIEL ABERA auf den Weg nach Kapstadt gemacht – straight ins Herz von Südafrika, um Young Bafana beim Cup of Hope Fußballturnier zu supporten.

Im Gepäck: unsere freshesten Pieces – Tracksuits, Jogginganzüge bestehend aus cozy Hoodies mit passenden Sweatpants, Oversized Tees und Tank Tops, Shorts, plus Headwear wie Baseball Caps und Dad Hats. Kurz gesagt: alles, was unsere Trending Streetwear Fashion und unser Streetwear Clothing aktuell ausmacht. All diese Pieces haben wir als Spenden für die Kids beim Cup of Hope übergeben.

Young Bafana – Hoffnung durch Fußball & Bildung

Young Bafana wurde 2010 gegründet und hat sich zu einer der wichtigsten sozialen Organisationen in Somerset West, Kapstadt, entwickelt. Sie bieten Kindern und Jugendlichen aus Townships Zugang zu hochwertigem Fußballtraining, schulischer Förderung, gesunder Ernährung und Life-Skills-Programmen.

Das Ziel: Kids und Jugendlichen Chancen eröffnen, Selbstvertrauen schenken und ihnen den Weg in eine bessere Zukunft ermöglichen. Heute nehmen mehr als 100 Kinder regelmäßig an den Programmen teil – viele von ihnen sind die erste Generation, die die Chance auf ein Studium oder eine professionelle Karriere hat.

Über Young Bafana kam’s zu einer Situation, die wir nie vergessen werden: ein spontanes Shooting mitten im Township Lwandle.
Die Models? Locals – echte Leute aus dem Township wie Avuyile und Philanathi.

Und ganz ehrlich: das war unsere krasseste Experience ever – und die Shots? Mit Abstand die besten, die wir bisher rausgehauen haben.

Die Realität von Lwandle

Lwandle ist ein Township bei Kapstadt, wo mehrere Hunderttausend Menschen auf engstem Raum leben – kleine Wellblechhütten, oft nicht größer als eine europäische Küche.
Manchmal teilen sich sechs Leute zehn Quadratmeter. Viele schlafen im Schichtsystem, weil einfach kein Platz ist. Wasser, Strom und Toiletten? Rar.

Aber trotz all dem: Lwandle ist voller Leben. Kids spielen auf der Straße, Nachbarn teilen, was sie haben, Musik und Culture sind überall. Dieser Mix aus harten Realitäten und ungebrochener Energie hat uns tief berührt.

Earlier this year, one of our founders at GABRIEL ABERA pulled up in Cape Town – straight to the heart of South Africa, to back Young Bafana at the Cup of Hope. In the bag: our dopest pieces – tracksuits, jogger sets with comfy hoodies and sweatpants, oversized tees and tops, shorts, plus headwear from baseball caps to dad hats. Basically everything that defines our streetwear fashion and keeps our streetwear clothing loud right now. All of these pieces were given as donations for the kids at the Cup of Hope football tournament.

Founded in 2010, Young Bafana has grown into one of the most important social organizations in Somerset West, Cape Town. They provide kids and children from townships with access to professional football training, academic support, healthy nutrition, and life-skills programs.

Their mission: to open doors, build confidence, and create pathways to a better future. Today, more than 100 children participate regularly in the programs – many of them the first generation with a real chance at higher education or a professional career.

Through Young Bafana, a raw and special moment came up: a spontaneous shooting in Lwandle township.
The models? Locals – including Avuyile and Philanathi. They rocked GABRIEL ABERA right in their neighborhood.

This shoot was by far our most powerful experience – and the outcome was the best we’ve ever created. It was more than just pictures: it was a bridge between global streetwear culture from Europe and the raw reality of South Africa.

Lwandle is a township near Cape Town, home to several hundred thousand people living side by side in small tin shacks, often no bigger than a European kitchen. Families of six sometimes share as little as ten square meters.

Conditions are tough: people often sleep in shifts because there isn’t enough space for everyone at once. Access to water, electricity, and sanitation is limited. For many, every day is a fight to survive. But still – Lwandle is full of life. Kids playing in the streets, neighbors sharing what they got, music and culture on every corner. That mix of tough reality and unshakable energy left us humbled and inspired.

Big shoutout to Young Bafana, the Lwandle community, and everyone who made this project happen.
